After four seasons, Jonny Marlin will be stepping down as Head Varsity Boys Basketball Coach at Greenwood Christian Academy. Coach Marlin has helped GCA grow in numerous ways, as evidenced by his teams’ on-court success, but more importantly, by the spiritual leadership he prioritized with the young men each season.
Coach Marlin completes his four-year tenure at GCA with a 65-30 record, which featured sectional championships in 2019 and 2020, as well as the 2020 Johnson County Championship. Now a father of two young daughters, Coach Marlin looks forward to focusing more on his family.
“I want to thank GCA for allowing me the opportunity to coach these past 4 years. My family and I are truly grateful for the memories and relationships. With our family growing and my attention needed elsewhere, I believe now is the right time to step down as coach.
It has been an absolute honor leading this program, and for the parents to trust me to mentor their sons in their walk with Christ. I pray more than anything that a passion for Jesus was cultivated here more than their passion for basketball.”
Athletic Director, Devin Gray, will begin the hiring process for a new coach immediately and understands there will be some big shoes to fill.
““Through both my personal and professional relationship with Coach Marlin, there has never been a question about how much he loves the Lord, his family, his players, and this GCA community. Working alongside him this year, I was able to see firsthand his supreme ability as a basketball coach, but even more so his gifting as a leader of young men. We are thankful for his service to GCA over the years, and wish him and his family nothing but the best moving forward.”
